RISE Program Overview
Program Background
The Rapid Internal Skills Enhancement (RISE) program was developed as part of WMC’s Skills Upgrading Project. A set of training materials were developed so that employees could benefit from an improved orientation and training process and employers could increase the effectives of on-the-job training. The RISE resources were developed in 2010 by a working group consisting of Advanced Wood Processing (AWP) Sector employers and employees and training organizations.
Purpose
The program’s main purpose is to provide employers in the Advanced Wood Processing sector and training organizations with practical training tools which support new employees and learners to further develop their AWP skills through comprehensive and informative training documents for different wood manufacturing tools, procedures, and processes, including workplace safety and documentation. This in turn enhances the training offered by employers. This is especially important for small and medium sized employers who may not have formalized training departments.
What are the RISE Resources?
The RISE modules act as individual training tools designed to capture the knowledge required to use manufacturing tools and equipment and to complete procedures and processes for various job tasks. Within each learning module, the purpose of the tool/equipment/procedure/process is described with the associated learning objectives and outcomes.
The RISE provides 9 learning modules covering the following areas:
- General Safety
- Taxonomy and Grading
- Production Documentation
- Solid Wood Processing Machinery
- Panel Processing Machinery
- Tooling
- Preventative Maintenance
- Surface Preparation
- Finishing
